What do we look for in our employers?  What makes it a good company to work for?  If the article recently published at money magazine is any indication money is not our only criteria.  More and more we look for the long term investment in ourselves, our society and our environment.  We include the things that bring a balance to our lives.  Many of the top 100 companies listed are taking proactive steps to support healthy lifestyles by offering fitness center memberships, yoga classes, professional life coaching and advisors, flexible work schedules and telecommuting options.

These companies are also supporting long term goals through social investment, promoting environmental health and incorporating sustainable business practices.  Practices that base the companies health and prosperity on long term achievable, sustainable goals rather than the quick payoff.  Imagine being paid to take time off to do volunteer work in the community or to take a sabbatical to help build a water treatment plant in Nigeria.  These companies look to creatively engage in business and by making sure that the employee’s voice is heard, challenging the employees to be reasonable and to use common sense  to be creative in their imagining of “future histories” in creating the business plan.

What would your “future history” look like?  What would your “future history” look like if you were to hold true to your dreams?  What are the possibilities of realizing your untapped potential?  Make the dream your future.  Realize your potential to create the history you want.

Luck

He is so lucky. She has the luck of the ages.  Why so lucky?   What good is luck if you are in no position to put it to good use?  “If it weren’t for bad luck I’ld have no luck at all.”  Are you lucky?  How can you become lucky?

Seth Godin in his blog asked the question, “How willing is your organization to be lucky?”  The same question can be posed to the individual.  How willing are you to be lucky?  Do you put yourself in the position to receive luck?

Tough to catch a ball if my head is down looking at the ground.  Tough to see a diamond in the rock if my head is in the clouds.   Be present.  Now.  Here. This moment.  In this way we can increase our luck.  We can see what is coming our way.  We can listen to that inspirational voice that whispers in our ears.  We can kiss Lady Luck on the lips when she is right in front of us.

Be open to the possibilities. Some of the funnest and most rewarding work I have ever done was because I took a chance in a conversation, or because I walked down a different street one morning.  Luck does not just happen.  We are either listening or not.  Some of my greatest blunders were because I ignored lady luck whispering to me.

What might happen if I created more opportunity in my life?  I might get lucky!
